Playthrough FX is a program that applies effects to the sound input and plays it through the speaker. Everything is done in real time.
The included effects are reverb and delay, and you can combine any number of these effects with varying parameters to produce a wide range of sounds.
I use Playthrough FX with input from a guitar, and instead of expensive effects pedals I can just use this program to get the same results.

How do I use Playthrough FX?
Launch the program, and click on the "Play Through" button. If you have a microphone connected to your computer, speak into it and you should hear yourself from the computer's speaker.
Click "New Reverb Unit" or "New Delay Unit" to add a unit into the chain. You should be able to hear the results of the effect immediately. To fine tune an effect, click on the corresponding title. (Note that you cannot click on the effect's icon, you must click on the title, i.e. "Reverb" or "Delay.") The settings will be enabled, and changes take effect in real time.
If you have more than one effects unit in the chain, you can rearrange them by dragging their titles. The effects are applied from left to right. So if, reading from left to right, you saw Input, Delay, Reverb, Output, the delay would be applied first, and then the reverb applied to the result of the delay.
To delete a unit, select it and click "Delete Selected Unit."
What are the system requirements?
Software wise, you need Mac OS X. Playthrough FX will not run on Mac OS 9 or below.
For the program to be useful, your computer has to have some kind of audio input. A microphone jack works perfectly. Playthrough FX uses the "default" input, so other types of audio input like USB audio and PCI input cards should work, although this has not been tested.
